My story
I’m a Norwegian figurative artist who has been drawing since I was three years old.
My earliest drawings were surprisingly detailed for my age, often with little sentences written beside them because I had already learned to read and write.
As a child, my drawings were colourful and imaginative, but when I started school, they became more controlled — just as my teacher had predicted.
Maybe that’s why my work today is about reclaiming that sense of freedom and authenticity.
At eighteen I studied art and design, and later attended an art school in Oslo.
Although it was an inspiring experience, I realized that I needed to find my own artistic path — one that felt more grounded and connected to real life.
So I chose to step away for a while.
What followed were almost twenty years without drawing a single line.
I got married, had three children, got divorced, and built a new life as a nurse and single mother.
Around 2009 I started painting again, little by little.
By January 2020, I started an Instagram account, and by chance, began painting rappers and musicians — something I had done as a teenager too.
It might seem unusual for a woman in her fifties, but for me, it made perfect sense.
I’m drawn to hip hop because of its contrasts — the roughness and honesty, the pain and poetry.
I’m inspired by street art, theatre, dance, jazz, and performance — by people who don’t fit neatly into boxes, who live intensely and create from that space.
My paintings are figurative, mostly acrylic.
I usually begin with a loose sketch that captures the most important lines and composition, and then I build the image layer by layer — gradually refining the details and depth.
I don’t plan every element in advance, but I stay open to how the painting evolves.
That’s what gives the work it’s energy and life.
Through my art, I try to reveal what lies beneath the surface — the humanity, the struggle, the passion, and the beauty in imperfection.
I might not look like the artist behind my more dramatic works, but that’s part of what fascinates me: we all carry many layers within us.
